Why Verde was hired.
Verde’s Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model offered the ideal solution, enabling STL to install solar PV infrastructure at no upfront cost and purchase the clean electricity generated on-site at a lower rate than traditional grid supply. This approach allows STL to reduce both operational costs and carbon emissions while future-proofing their energy supply.
The challenge.
Delivering a solar PV project at STL Logistics involved several key logistical and operational challenges. As a large, active distribution site with ongoing vehicle and warehouse operations, ensuring safety and minimal disruption during installation was a top priority. Coordinating crane lifts and rooftop works around a busy yard and fleet movements required detailed planning and real-time communication. Additionally, the roof structure and layout needed to be assessed carefully to optimise solar generation while accommodating STL’s operational needs. Despite these complexities, the project was delivered safely and efficiently, with zero downtime to STL’s core logistics operations.
The outcomes.
Following the installation of a 231 kWp solar PV system, STL Logistics has made a significant step forward in reducing energy costs and improving environmental performance across their operations. The system now generates approximately 208,253 kWh of clean electricity per year, helping the site achieve 21% energy self-sufficiency. In environmental terms, the installation delivers an annual reduction of 69,126 kg of CO₂ emissions, supporting STL’s wider sustainability goals and positioning the company as a responsible leader in the logistics sector.
