Tallaght Hospital Lighting Retrofit Underway
LED lighting retrofit of Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin 24.
VERDE Energy has just commenced the LED lighting retrofit of Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin 24. Tallaght University Hospital is one of Ireland’s largest acute teaching hospitals, providing child-health, adult, psychiatric and age-related healthcare on one site. With 562 beds, 12 theatres and 14 Critical Care beds in operation, the hospital treats over 410,000 patients per year and employs almost 3,000 staff.
This 12-month turnkey programme recognises VERDE as the no. 1 energy company for LED Lighting in the healthcare sector. This retrofit is one of the largest LED projects underway in Ireland for 2021/22.

The project is the latest in several large-scale retrofits completed in the healthcare sector by the company. VERDE Energy have already completed the full retrofit of St. James Hospital (Dublin) and have ongoing retrofit programmes in St. Finbarr’s Hospital (Cork), Mallow Hospital (Cork), Kinsale Community Hospital and the Galway Clinic.
VERDE also have a supply agreement with the HSE on a continuous basis. All VERDE products have undergone rigorous testing to comply with the strictest quality requirements in terms of design, lifespan and glare reduction. For all clinical areas VERDE specifically designed CRI>90 fittings which deliver a higher colour rendering specification, important for key areas within any healthcare environment.
The Tallaght University Hospital retrofit project is a challenging one particularly while operating under Covid restrictions. Verde teams operate in very high traffic environments where dust must be minimised. This is compounded by a detailed hygiene programme. Previous experience in numerous healthcare facilities means the Verde engineers work causing the minimum disruption. The programme has over 5,000 fixtures to include anti-ligature, high IP and high CRI ratings and involves the full project management with our electrical team on site working in a changing environment with a constantly changing schedule due to access requirements.
